Single site tracking is the quickest and easiest way to track and replicate your online resources such as a website, blog or other online pages using MDC DOT. Single site works by default once you install your tracking codes on your blog, websites or landing pages.
If you are using MDC DOT for yourself only then you just share your links as normal for example: www.yoururl.com and all tracking and lead rotation will be automatically assigned to your Sales user account.
If you plan on having multiple sales users or sales reps use MDC DOT under your account then you will need to make sure your sales reps understand how to share custom URLs using their unique MDC DOT ID number in order to tag their traffic, stats and leads to them. The following instructions explain how this works:
To share a single-site tracking link, you must append the single-site tracking tag, including your MDC DOT User ID, to the link you want to share. You can find your MDC DOT User ID in the Sales User side of the application in MY PROFILE under MY GENERAL INFORMATION.
The single-site tracking tag is:
“#“+”!” + (your MDC DOT User ID)
Here are some examples of single-site tracking links including the single-site tracking tag:
http://www.website.com/#![Your ID Number here]
http://www.website.com/features.php#![Your ID Number here] *
http://www.website.com/promotions/product/#![Your ID Number here]
http://www.website.com/category/subcategory/page/#![Your ID Number here]
http://www.website.com/blog/#![Your ID Number here]
http://blog.website.com/#![Your ID Number here]
Please do not include the brackets, “[” or “]”, around your ID.
*You will notice that in this example there is no slash, “/”, between “.php” and “#!“. If the original URL that you copy does not end with a slash, do not add one.
When your sales reps share their links and their leads click your sales reps single-site tracking URL, all of the subsequent page views and visits they generate will not have your sales reps ID in the URL. This means that when a lead uses your sales reps single site tracking link, they will see #![Your ID Number here] at the end of the URL, but every page on the website they visit after that will not have the #![Your ID Number here] at the end. Rest assured that even when they do not see #![Your ID Number here], the leads are still tied to your sales reps and being tracked. This is all done behind the scenes.
For tech-savvy users, you can confirm this by looking at the MDC DOT cookie in your browser. If you used the single site tracking tag correctly, you should be able to find a cookie with your sales reps Site Username.
FOR MULTI-USERS ONLY:
The site username method allows you to provide to your sales reps replicated websites and landing pages using their site username instead of their MDC DOT ID as explained above in the single site method. For example:
Site username can be found in the Sales User side of the application in MY PROFILE under MY GENERAL INFORMATION.
If you want to setup replication and tracking using site username you will need to have your website developer perform some customization to your servers and code base. Since there are many types of hosting services and web programming languages we can not provide written instructions on how to modify your servers to use site username method. Please have your web developer reach out to support with a request to implement site username and our support team will work with your developer based on your server setup to implement this method.
